Of Heritage Breeds . .

Industrialized agriculture has left us in a
precarious position. We loose genetic diversity
every year and the animals loose the ability to
be animals. Your Thanksgiving Turkey will
be from artificially inseminated stock unless
you buy a heritage bird. Some links on the
matter:

I would really like to give turkeys a try. Maybe next
year.

Michelle,

You have Delawares! Ain't they great! We love ours. They are consistant egg producers and when you have too many roosters they taste pretty good too.

I like the breed so far. I also
have 2 blackstar (a new breed)
an a RIR. I'm really hoping for
some chicks this spring.
Hubby says that fertile eggs have
a little red speck in them.
I have found this to be true,
but they still taste the same.
I'm not expecting broodiness
until spring.
I'm hoping to learn the fine art
of butchering in the next few
months. The lady that I bought
Hu from says she justs skins her
birds and doesn't bother with
plucking at all. Pure genius.
